It was summer in Peru and the water was freezing
The waves breaking on the rocks the way a man breaks when his mother dies
Relentlessly, desperately, hopelessly
Santa Maria was glowing with the lights of its shores
The santorinian structure stood tall against the rush of the ocean
It was dark, it was cold, and I had just lost my hope
It was foreign, it was strange, it was raw
I was lost and the darkness of the ocean seemed to be swallowing the world
To choose to shine once again meant to jump from the sky
Into the darkness, into everything that’s ever been lost, into the pounding of a dying heart
